RE: How do you deal with the rat’s nest of cords?

A couple possible options.
1. Wrap the cable slack up - I use velcro ties for this. Velcro ties hold the cables securely but will not damage them unless you really exceed the bend radius for the wire diameter. Some also have mounting holes so you can hang or tack the bundles up out of the way.
2. Buy or make shorter cables. There are several companies online that offer power cables with the various ends at different lengths. I have one for my laptop power supply that is only 12" long that I use on my desk to reduce clutter.

RE: Country Coach Veranda

All the comments are how the coach looks with the veranda slide out - check one out with the slide in..... it's like a dark cave. The only windows along the side of the coach are the really small ones at the top.
Think I'll wait till I can afford a Featherlite Vantare with a roof top deck. Look over the neighbors instead of at them.

RE: Has anyone regretted going bigger?

The only comment I can add is to think about your favorite places to camp and ensure they allow the longer length you are looking at. We are limited to 40' due to our favorite spot to camp on the central coast. While I've seen 2-3 42's in the park over the past 8 years, they do get harassed by the Rangers and Officers that patrol the park. I have heard of one person with a 45' being turned away.

RE: Campground near San Jose

A couple comments on the suggested parks,
Maple Leaf is <75% permanent residents. They are often visited by Morgan Hill PD and Sheriff's due to "issues" with the residents. The back of the park is right on the RR tracks and 4-5 trains per night go down these tracks.
Garlic Farm and Garlic Country USA also have permanent residents but much less than Maple Leaf. Garlic Farm has had problems with drugs and prostitution due to backing up to the truck stop. Both parks have easy Hwy 101 access and are 5-7 years old. Very close to shopping, restaurants, and food.
Betabel is a mature park and from what I could see only had a few permanent residents, mainly the staff. It's further away from SJ on 101 but fairly nice. They have mature trees, green grass, and I believe a decent general store.
Coyote Valley is the newest of the bunch. The front of the park is off Monterey Hwy and the RR tracks are across the Hwy from the park. No major crossings in the area so the train just roll through. Fairly easy on/off to Hwy 101. Breezy in windy weather and as noted HOT in the dead of summer.
Hope this helps,

RE: carlsbad caverns

Yet another vote for the Carlsbad KOA. We stayed there several years ago shortly after the new owners had taken over the old Seven Rivers RV Park. The owners are very friendly and at that time had big plans for the park. As others said, the sites are very good size and the entry exist roads are wide and easy to navigate even with a toad in place. The drive to/from the caverns is easy and allows you to stop at The Red Chimney BBQ for dinner on your way back to the park. Excellent BBQ.

RE: outdoor resorts Indio Ca

We have stayed at the Indio (old) park and also have friends that own places there. It's a very well upkept park, the people are friendly and fun. The only negatives that I know of is the park has been targeted by thieves in the past - particularly the perimeter sites. Also, in the fall and spring you may get some fairly windy days. Other than that, life is good. Enjoy your new property !

RE: Tow Bars.....Opinions, Please

okay, towing a slightly older Chevy and have different opinion. I have Roadmasters Blackhawk All-Terrain and their hidden hitch brackets. So far we've put over 20K miles on this setup and it's worked great. I have no complaints. Our tow bar is old enough though it was only rated at 8,000lbs, the newer ones are 10,000lbs.

Meguire's Plastic Cleaner and Polish also work very well. Each bottle is ~6.00 at most auto parts stores.

RE: Where to look for a used American Eagle

Another place to check is Beaudry in Tucson. They normally have a pretty good selection of clean trade ins. Not sure how, but many folks only keep their coaches 2-3 years and then have to get the newest, latest, greatest. Lot of good deals out there.
I'll also 3rd or 4th the joining of the American Coach Yahoo Group. You will find owners of all models and years willing to openly share both good and bad experiences.

RE: National Interstate Glass Claim - Toad

My personal experience, your mileage and experience my vary....
I have had two windshields replaced by NI with no problem. In both cases I had approval within 3 days and the windshields replaced within 6-7 days with no hassles at all. I thought this was great till I had a $12K body damage claim with NI that took 3 months to get resolved. I had to hound the NI adjuster to death and call her supervisor twice. They never raised my rates so I'm still with them which may be good or bad.

RE: Big Rig Friendly Campgrounds - Zion and Bryce

Fwiw, we stayed at Zion River Resort in the middle of winter a few years ago and used it as base to see both Zion and Bryce. The drive to Bryce was ~75 minutes each way. Being in the parks off season meant we essentially had the place to ourselves and could drive our toad into both instead of taking the shuttle. We spent 5 days hiking and saw everything or close to everything. I would stay at Zion River Resort again as the staff was very friendly, sites were large and clean, we had solid power - no brown outs or drops, no frozen water pipes, and propane available onsite. There are many pictures in our photos albums at the link below if you want to see what the parks look like in the winter.

RE: New member w/ a problem. DP has no OOMPF anymore UPDATE

I don't know much about the 230hp engine but if you have an exhaust brake on it, that's another thing to check. A sticking exhaust brake will make your engine feel as if the turbo doesn't exist. The exhaust brake is mounted on the exhaust directly behind the turbo. They should be used often and lubed 3-4 times per year to eliminate sticking of the butterfly and shaft. If you need a picture, go to PacBrakes webapage and that will give you the general idea.

RE: hot start - heat in doghouse 454 chev motor P30 frame

Let me add one thing about GM hot start problems in general - check your battery and ground cables very carefully.
I've helped friends with several Chevy's that had "hot start problems" all but one turned out to be bad cables. Check the battery cable on the starter itself and the ground strap that goes from the block to the firewall. If in any doubt, replace them as internal corrosion is impossible to fix. The block strap is often missing resulting in the electrical circuit having to complete through all kinds of connections and each adds more resistance when hot.

RE: Exhaust vent or Ceiling fan in bedroom?

I wanted a ceiling fan, but our ducted A/C is right in the center of the roof and wouldn't allow me to install one without major rework to the ducts. We already leave the Fantastic Fans open and running but it was still a bit hot so I added a small 120v 10" personal fan into the corner of the bedroom to aid circulation. Works great and it's very quiet on low.

RE: TV ignition cut out

*IF* you don't have another outlet within reach, with all 120v and 12v power turned off (including batteries), cut the red and black 12v wires that enter the side of the outlet the TV is connected to and tape them off. No more 12v interlock.
hypothetically of course ;-)

RE: Looking for a place to stay in Calif by the beach

Chula Vista RV Park and Marina is nice especially if you like to walk along the edge of the bay and watch the sunset over Coronado. Great thing to do with a bottle of wine and light snack.

RE: What to do with obnoxious neighbors?

Very unfortunate situation. You did about all you can other than writing a commentary on RV Park Reviews to warn others. I've found that many camp hosts are unwilling to "get involved" especially with permanent or semi-permanent residents and nowadays the nightshift is non-existant at many state and county parks.

RE: Travel to Santa Cruz California

Let's be honest, the state parks fill up 7 months in advance due to the reservation system. Smithwoods and Cotillion are in the redwoods and nice but not really near the beach. The Santa Cruz Yacht harbor is okay but small. Your best bet may be the KOA even though it's over priced.

RE: San Lorenzo Cnty Park, King City, CA

Just a bit further down 101 and you have Lake San Antonio. Camping near the lake beats being inland at King City when it hits 100+.
